Structural steel ribbon window wall framing was completed at the N elevation; east elevation ribbon window wall framing has started

The entire N elevation exterior walls at the third and second floor are sheathed with Dense Glass (yellow board) currently hanging the E elevation

Cast iron sewer piping is completed on the first floor; second floor will be completed in 2-3 weeks

Domestic water line piping on the first floor has started

In-wall electrical on the first floor is about 50% complete; overhead electrical runs will start before 9/13

Branch HVAC duct for AHU 1 & 2 are 90% complete; pressure test will occur next Thursday and insulation thereafter

70% of all first floor interior walls are framed

60% of all second floor interior walls are framed

80% of all exterior walls are framed

Both stair towers are in place with all concrete poured

Secondary exterior canopy on the N elevation has been set

Roofing membrane on the low roof is about 40% installed

High roof substrate (concrete insulation) is 30% installed

Block work for the mech yard screen wall and site wall adjacent to 40th street have started

Fire line and domestic water line that serves the south side of the project are installed and signed off by the city inspector and Fire Marshal

Within the next two weeks, we are going to be substantially complete with all first floor interior framing, domestic water lines, overhead duct work fire sprinkler lines and most of the mechanical piping itself will be installed. Most of the mechanical trades will be working on the second floor on or before Sept 13th. The big roof top air handlers will set on 9/28 and 9/29.

We are very pleased with what we have accomplished since May 20, which was the date the first piece of structural steel was set.

Exterior wall framing at the second/third floor levels is about 85% complete all the way around the building

Parapet sheathing at the high roof is 50% completed

Both stair towers are erected structurally and decked

Main entrance steel canopy was put into place this week by the iron workers

West elevation stair tower concrete was placed (stairs, landings at both floor levels)

South elevation stair tower concrete slab on grade was placed

Fire line and domestic water line is installed on the south elevation of the building and will be inspected by the city and fire marshal on 8/30

First and second floor electrical in wall rough in continues

First floor overhead ductwork continues

First floor overhead mechanical piping continues

First floor sprinkler piping continues

Second floor plumbing rough in continues

Third floor interior wall layout is complete

Third floor coring for plumbing continues

Fire caulking and sound proofing started this past week on the first floor

Fire taping of top out board started this past week on the first floor

Structural steel fire proofing is 75% complete

A significant amount of work is taking place weekly, most of which is the framing and overhead mechanical rough ins. The rain this past week has had some effect on exterior work. Our focus right now is getting the building sheathed and the high roof down to where it is substantially dried in, the low roof is substantially dried in. We currently have 90+ men working onsite. As more areas open up, we will continue to add to that number to ensure we stay as productive as possible. We continue to push hard as we approach a holiday weekend next week, and the job will be shut down on Monday, September 6 for Labor Day.

We are aggressively pushing the job–this weekend will make the 7th consecutive Saturday we have worked. The weather this past week was mostly cooperative, but we did experience some rain Monday evening which really saturated the site Tuesday. The safety and quality of work being put in place is excellent, and we couldn’t be more pleased in that regard.

We are making good progress on the fireproofing, currently on the second floor. Wall layout and framing is running concurrent on all three floors as of this past Wednesday. The electrician is roughing in all in wall boxes on the first floor for power and data. The mechanical contractors continue overhead mechanical work on the first floor (wet and dry systems). This past week the site utility contractor has been working on running the fire line service under 40th street to the building site.

We continue the steel work although most of what is left is miscellaneous detail work. The roof continues to make progress (weather cooperating), and we are almost ready to pour the remaining section of slab on grade at the kitchen. The interior wall layout is substantially completed through the second floor, and we have crews on floor three laying out as of yesterday. We are still waiting on permanent power from APS so all work being put in place is being powered by three diesel generators.

Since May 19th, we have erected over 520 tons of structural steel and have 95% of the buildings concrete (slabs/decks) in place. This past Sunday night we had cooperating weather so we were able to place the last section of slab on deck at the third floor.

We are making good progress on the first floor fireproofing of the structural steel, which has allowed us to begin hanging the overhead duct work in the Pre-Op and PACU area. The second floor bed tower is 100% laid out for interior walls, and we actually have a substantial amount of exterior walls built on this floor. The exterior walls on the south and west elevation are currently being sheathed.

By the end of today, we should have the low roof down to where we are substantially dry on the first floor thanks to clear days; the weather has been much more cooperative this week then last week.

We are in the process of making the fire line taps on 40th street that will provide fire protection (sprinklers) for the hospital; this is a tedious process where the city is involved with numerous inspections and observations.

The plumbers are working this Saturday on layout for patient rooms on the second floor and coring concrete for their piping runs.

This past week we have really been standing lots of interior walls on the first floor. We also placed the first section of concrete deck up on the third floor and completed the concrete curb on the second floor that separates the low roof from the bed towers. The remaining third floor section left to pour is now scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday) night. We are working today, Saturday, blowing the rain water out of the deck where we will be working Sunday night. We have a limited area within the building on the first floor where we have been able to fireproof the steel structure and actually started hanging some duct work. APS has set the buildings transformers and should start pulling and landing primary wiring for us hopefully this week, worst case next week. The building’s sanitary sewer lines are about 90% completed, and we just got started on the storm sewer lines. We anticipate being able to make the water main taps within the next two weeks pending the cities civil inspector’s approval of the sanitary sewer tie in. We just started interior wall layout on the second floor yesterday and should begin some additional exterior wall framing this coming week. Overall it has been a safe week; the rains did hurt somewhat this past week, and the site is extremely saturated.

This week we have been working the entire project site, such as:

Taping the sewer main at 40th street that the hospital sewer will feed

Laying the gas line for Southwest Gas

Completed placing the concrete site light pole bases within the parking areas and driveways

Started exterior wall framing

Continuation of interior wall layout

Set the first set of permanent stairs within the building

Began decking the third floor and installed safety perimeter cable

Resumed work at the roof level - setting the final section of structural steel at the roof line

Continued misc detail welding on the structure under the supervision of the special inspector

Continuation of overhead mechanical & electrical rough in work, i.e. installing sleeves in the deck for electrical runs, setting roof drains and laying out hangers that will support duct work and piping

We placed our first elevated concrete deck on the second floor the morning of July 17–a picture of the concrete going down at the second floor level is included below. It has been a productive and safe work week. However it has been very hot, the last three days the iron workers have had to come down off the steel around 11:00 am due to the heat and potential risk this heat exposes them to (heat exhaustion/stroke and falls). To stay productive instead of erecting steel after 11:00 a.m., we mostly catch up on the detail welds and misc work.
